Xbox Live Marketplaces Sonic 20th Anniversary Sale
24th June, 2011 By Sarah Morris

Sonic's not doing too bad for 20 - and his upcoming game, Sonic Generations looks like an impressive return to form for everyone's favourite blue hedgehog. As part of Sonic the Hegehog's 20th Anniversary celebrations, Sega are offering discounts on pretty much every Sonic game on the Xbox Live Marketplace, as well as a few add-ons until the 28th June.

Games:

Now: 400 Microsoft Points (about £3.40)

Dr. Robotnik has unleashed the monster residing in the ancient Master Emerald - and it grows stronger with each Chaos Emerald he feeds him. It's up to Sonic and his friends to put a stop to Robotnik's devious plan and save the world.

Was: 240 Microsoft Points (about £1.70)

Now: 120 Microsoft Points (about £0.85)

Set after the events of Sonic The Hedgehog 3, Knuckles the Echidna realises he's just a pawn in Eggman's schemes, and joins forces with his once sworn enemy Sonic. The pair must work together, to get the Master Emerald before Robotnik can, and save Angel Island, the floating island that's Knuckles' home.

Was: 400 Microsoft Points (about £3.40)

Now: 240 Microsoft Points (about £2.04)

The original game that introduced the speedy blue hedgehog to millions has you rocketing Sonic through loops, collecting rings as you try to stop the evil Dr. Robotnik and his plans for world domination.

Sonic The Hedgehog 2

Was: 400 Microsoft Points (about £3.40)

Now: 240 Microsoft Points (about £2.04)

Dr. Robotnik's at it again - he's trying to track down the Chaos Emeralds to power his new 'Death Egg'. And now he's imprisoned all the animals, turning them into mindless workers. Sonic and Tails must stop him before it's too late!

Was: 400 Microsoft Points (about £3.40)

Now: 240 Microsoft Points (about £2.04)

Dr. Robotnik doesn't learn - he's back, and after the Chaos Emeralds again, this time to rebuild his Death Egg. But Eggman has a new parter in crime - Knuckles the echidna - who'll do anything to stop Sonic and Tails in the quest to stop Robotnik again.

Was: 1200 Microsoft Points (about £10.20)

Now: 800 Microsoft Points (about £6.80)

With his Death Egg in ruins, Robotnik isn't going to rest on his laurels - he's decided he's going to improve every contraption he's made in an effort to stop that pesky blue blur once and for all.

Add-Ons:

Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing Screenshot

Sonic & Sega All Stars Racing: Ryo Hazuki Forklift Truck

Was: 320 Microsoft Points (about £2.72)

Now: 240 Microsoft Points (about £2.04)

No need to say excuse me in this forklift truck - just ram your way through to those sailors! While previously only available as his All-Star move, with this pack you can now play as Forklift Ryo, who constantly drives the forklift truck. Not sure what he does for an All-Star move now though...

Sonic & Sega All Stars Racing: Metal Sonic & Death Egg Zone

Was: 560 Microsoft Points (about £4.76)

Now: 320 Microsoft Points (about £2.72)

With this add-on, you can play as Metal Sonic and race around the Death Egg Zone track, a huge orbital fortress created by Dr. Robotnik to house his diabolical creations. The pack also comes with a handful of music tracks included - it makes the Ryo Forklift pack sound like terrible value...

Sonic & Sega All Stars Racing: Unlock All Characters & Tracks

Was: 400 Microsoft Points (about £3.40)

Now: 240 Microsoft Points (about £2.04)

Downloading this lets you unlock all 24 characters and 22 tracks from the game from the off, without having to buy them in the game with your Sega Miles. Personally, I think it kind of ruins the game - but at least now you can ruin your game for cheaper than you could before!

Sonic Adventure: DX Upgrade

Was: 400 Microsoft Points (about £3.40)

Now: 240 Microsoft Points (about £2.04)

Buying this add-on for the Sonic Adventure XBLA game will get you a whopping 60 extra missions, as well as Metal Sonic as a playable character. The best Sonic game (in my opinion, anyway) just got longer!

That's that then - a whole load of Sonic stuff for cheap, which is never a bad thing! I would have preferred a lower price for Sonic The Hedgehog 4: Episode 1 though. But what's even better, is that this sale is open to everyone - not just the Xbox Live Gold members they normally restrict them to.

Approximate value of Microsoft points in pounds is based on buying the points direct from Microsoft through the Xbox dashboard - equivalent price in pounds will vary depending on where you bought your points.
