Parent's Guide

Farming Simulator 2013 is a game that - you guessed it - puts you in charge of running your own farm. Only this one takes things a little bit more seriously than Farmville, or Harvest Moon. While you can buy animals, it's the crops that will earn the majority of your money here - and in order to tend to those, you'll need the right equipment.

Starting out with three fields full of crops, it's up to you to take control of the relevant vehicles, and harvest the fruits of your labour. Whether you're chopping the wheat down with your combine harvester, or driving a tractor full of grain to be sold at the railway station, there's always something to keep you busy - and the ability to forward time if there isn't!

With a fairly complex economic system at play, the goal here is to simply earn a profit from your farm. The more you make, the more fields you can buy, the better equipment you can own, and the more successful your farm will be. However, Farming Simulator 2013 has a pretty steep learning curve, with a tutorial that simultaneously tells you a heck of a lot, but doesn't really give you enough knowledge to really feel confident with the game. With a lot of reading involved, and some budget balancing to do, this is one that's perhaps best for older children.

Mature Content

Farming Simulator 2013 has nothing for parents to be concerned about. Although it's based around farming, and you can keep livestock, you'll never be expected to send them to the slaughter. In Farming Sim, your sheep produce wool, cows produce milk, and chicken produce eggs - and nothing more.
