What is Seasons After Fall?

Seasons After Fall is a puzzle platformer set in a mysterious sleeping forest. Playing as a young fox who gains the ability to alter the seasons at will, it falls to you to run, jump and bark your way through the swamps, treetops and caves as you try to uncover the secrets of the forest, and restore it to its former glory. As you switch between the seasons at will, you'll alter the surroundings around you in many different ways, which in turn will play into many of the puzzles you'll encounter on your journey.

How do you play Seasons After Fall?

Instead of being divided into set levels, Seasons After Fall takes place in an open forest made out of interconnecting paths and areas - and you'll need to make use your season-changing powers in order to get around. For example, changing to winter freezes the otherwise free flowing geysers and waterfalls solid, which you can use as makeshift platforms to give you a leg up to a higher cliff. Autumn meanwhile is the only season where mushrooms pop open for you to jump on, while Spring's rainfall is the perfect way to make plants and trees bloom. By chopping and changing between the seasons at your disposal, you'll be able to traverse the entirety of the forest, leaping from mushroom to treetop to frozen river, uncovering the secrets hidden inside.

How easy is Seasons After Fall to pick up and play?

With no real way to die (except for falling off a cliff in one or two sections), Seasons After Fall is a pretty easy going game, with platforming sequences that are forgiving enough to not require pinpoint accuracy or super speedy reactions. Most of the difficulty comes from figuring out how to approach the game's many puzzles for the best, working out what seasons to mix and match to get the desired effects. Also, as the forest is a huge open expanse of entwining paths and linked areas, finding your way from A to B can sometimes take some doing, as there's no map to help you out, and the game is made such that you need to backtrack frequently. Lastly, the game's story is fully voiced by a narrator, which means, aside from the occasional tutorial-style pop up, reading isn't a necessity here.

As a colourful platform game, Seasons After Fall contains nothing in the way of mature content - there's no blood and gore, no violence and no bad language whatsoever. Be wary though, as at one point about halfway through the game, its heavily implied that the fox you'd been controlling 'dies' when a ritual fails; however it all sorts itself out in the end.
